WHAT IS A CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE?
According to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, all consumers of electrical installations must have a valid Certificate of Compliance. This certificate confirms that the property’s electrical connections are legal, safe, and in working order. At ESG Services, we have over 28 years of experience in issuing these certificates, ensuring your property meets all regulatory standards.
WHEN DO I NEED A CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE?
Any premises that have undergone electrical installations since 1992 require a Certificate of Compliance. This certificate is essential for legal and safety reasons, and beneficial for unexpected visits from the Department of Labour. While the onus for obtaining the certificate rests with the owner, only a qualified electrician can issue it.

About Johan Wentzel
Johan Wentzel, owner and founder, has more than 40 years’ experience in the electrical industry.
He qualified as an electrician in 1980 and has worked on various electrical projects across the Free State, including municipal services and rural hospital projects in Lesotho. In 1991, he became a wiring inspector for Bloemfontein Electricity, responsible for all inspections, maintenance, expansions, and new projects on City Council buildings until 2008. He was also responsible for temporary electrical connections for special events like the Macufe Festival and Bloem Show.
In 1995, Johan Wentzel Electrical was established as an after-hours electrical company specializing in maintenance and installations for private residences. It became one of the first companies to issue Certificates of Compliance.
